Thanks to the advancement of technology, the customers are now used to online retail, quick home deliveries and the connectivity that smartphones offer. It makes sense that restaurant owners want their business to match the changes in the technological world. Take the example of  cloud based POS systems for restaurants, it has not only improved business operations but has also helped restaurants meet customer expectations better. In fact, to keep up with the changes, restauranteurs need to know about the up and coming technologies and the latest technological trends.

Other than earning more profits, restaurant technology can also help in streamlining operations, distribution resources adequately, and create a brand name. Prevention of food waste and employee efficiencies can also be improved using restaurant technologies like a POS system. Every day a new and more efficient technology comes into the market. So today, let’s take a look at the restaurant technologies that will be soon used in our future. A few restaurants and food delivery platforms have already started utilising it in the first world countries.

Drone Deliveries:

The off-premises sales in the world make up to a massive 60% of all foodservice occasions. A restaurant is said to be missing out if it doesn’t have food delivery option. It won’t be wrong to say that delivery has become a crucial part of restaurant operations. Given how popular this service is becoming, restaurants are always on the lookout for creative technological solutions.

In North Caroline, last year, experimental trials of drone deliveries were conducted. The trial was small-scaled but provided satisfactory results. Drone deliveries have the problems of distance, weight, and weather to consider but as the idea has a lot of potential for offering quick and cost-effective deliveries, it’s definitely something that restaurants will be using in the coming years, when these problems are solved, of course.

AI Menu Customization:

A lot of people follow specialised diets either because they are health conscious or have allergies that makes them do so. Restaurants need to make customised food for such individuals, and keeping track of the customisations requested by customers can be hard manually. Thus, restaurants are on the lookout for technology utilising artificial intelligence to help them in customising their menus automatically. The AI should generate a customised menu for customers based on their dietary preferences.

The idea is for AI to collect data about customer’s ordering preferences, demographics, social usage, so restaurants can better know customers and be able to provide a personalised experience. A few experimental restaurant digital solutions of this nature that are being made use AI to provide answers to these questions.

Kitchen Automation:

A company called Picnic showcased a prototype of an automated assembly platform for restaurants last year. This machine can create different dishes using the ingredients specified. It successfully made customisable pizzas on its first trial. The future of this technology is bright, can be used through customer-facing apps. Customers will be able to select the topping of their choice. But one employee would still be required to place the dough in the assembly line and replenish the toppings!
