So if you are feeling down in the dumps, we’d recommend you to take a look at the list of food that will make you feel better.


Even if you are already nourishing your body with healthy foods, and you’re feeling well most of the times. It’s possible to make you feel happier by adding these ‘happy meals’ in your diet.

1: Watermelon

Who doesn’t love watermelon? These juicy fruits not only makes our tastebuds happy, but they have been proven to improve overall happiness and well-being.


The ingredient, lycopene that makes watermelon red is also responsible for making us feel happy. Not only it helps in making our skin looks fresh but also play a vital role in keeping your waist slim.


What’s more? The watermelon prevents the development of interleukin-6 in our body, which is associated with depression. It also helps in fighting cancer and protects against infertility. Now, who’s not going to have a watermelon every day?

2: Carrots

Often underrated vegetable, the carrot is scientifically proven to make us feel happy. Like, in my opinion, carrots are the most lively vegetables to eat. The sound of crackle and crunch when you bite into them is simply irresistible.


Carrots have been associated with having mood-boosting properties including vitamin C. Did you know that a single carrot contains 500 carotene which is beneficial to prevent brain damage and also keep your skin healthy?


Adding these red-colored delicious vegetables to your diet will surely make you feel happy.


3: Chocolate

Okay, everyone’s favorite is finally on the list CHOCOLATES!. We all get happy when indulging ourselves in a chocolate coma.


Don’t beat yourself too hard when you munch on one or two brownies whenever you are feeling down. Chocolates have been proven to be mood-booster when consumed in moderation.


Although it’s still high in calories, the sugar that gives chocolate its rich taste helps increase serotonin levels, while the fat content releases mood-elevating endorphins.

In my opinion, indulge in one or two pieces of dark chocolate to avoid paying the price in the waistline area.

4: Garlic

Not as attractive as other food on the list, but hey it’s a powerhouse and has the ability to make you smile. And that’s what matters!


Garlic is packed with mineral chromium, which has the ability to regulate serotonin levels. Serotonin causes to reduce pain and produce a calm state.  


If garlic isn’t your thing, then there are other substitutes for getting a chromium boost including onions, shallots, and leeks.

5: Grapefruits

The vitamin C rich sourced grapefruits are one of the effective foods to boost your mood. The grapefruit has been found to increase brain efficiency and brain functionality as well.


There’s a slight difference between grapefruits and oranges. The latter has more sugar than the former but both are equally beneficial and tasty.


When you consume high amounts of sugar, especially earlier in the day, it will most likely lead to the dreaded "sugar crash" later on, which will not leave you smiling.

6: Salmon

Salmon fish is absolutely loaded with Omega 3 fatty acid which has been proven to improve your mood and fight depression.


Not only that, one of the fatty acids in salmon fish is found to be effective in fighting diseases such as hypertension, depression, arthritis, diabetes, and some cancers.

7: Raw walnuts

Raw walnuts are an excellent source of magnesium—which studies have shown can be used to manage and reduce symptoms of depression.
